A visit to Gardenia Garden & Home Décor is enhanced by its location in the Old Mill District of Historic Milford, Ohio. Gardenia is located in a stone building that was built in 1860. The building has the original stone walls as well as the original hardwood floors. The two story location was originally built as a warehouse for the Kugler Mill. Local lore has it that John Kugler owned fields in Indian Hill, but his mill was in Milford on the other side of the Little Miami River. The bridge which spanned the Little Miami River was a toll bridge back then. Mr. Kugler tired of paying the toll several times a day so he began to gather stone to build his own bridge. (I guess you could do that back then!) In the time that it took him to gather the stone, the toll was eliminated from the bridge. Having all the stone, Mr. Kugler decided to build three buildings, including the one that houses Gardenia Garden & Home Décor today. Like I said this is local lore, and I would be interested in hearing more about this building.
